Gobuk village, situated in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh at an elevation of approximately 1,236 metres above sea level, is home to the Adi tribe—one of the largest indigenous communities in the state. In its pursuit of a more sustainable way of life, the village has taken bold steps to conserve its rich biodiversity, including the voluntary reduction of wildlife hunting, a practice once integral to traditional Adi culture.
With the support of organisations such as Titli Trust, Green Hub, and the Royal Enfield Social Mission, and through the unwavering commitment of conservation-minded individuals, Gobuk has documented its extraordinary biodiversity and initiated nature-linked livelihoods. These steps strengthen conservation efforts while fostering environmental awareness and long-term sustainability for the community.
The Siang River, which originates in Tibet (where it is called the Yarlung Tsangpo River), flows south through Arunachal Pradesh, before it flows in a southwesterly direction through Assam, where it is called the Brahmaputra.
